A lich is a form of undead created through necromantic magic. The ritual is complex and expensive, requiring tremendous amounts of skill, but is not inherently profane in nature. Despite the obvious advantages of lichdom, few arch magi have actually taken the plunge to become undead.

Liches are able to construct a phylactery, allowing them to transfer their soul to an object, which thus allows them to survive the destruction of their material body. However, there is a range limitation on these objects, and as thus a lich whose body is destroyed may also find their phylactery destroyed as well. Likewise, a phylactery must be nearby an inanimate corpse in order for the soul to transfer to a body.
